Dakota Camera - Interface Options
There are basicly three options to connect a USB cable to the camera:
Directly solder the USB cable to the camera.
Use a soldered custom interface of some sort.
Use an interface card or adapter that fits the camera.
By far the best option is the interface card/adapter, as the camera doesn't need to be opened and looks exactly the same. As for the Interface card, assorted hacks have been done including:
I ended up grabbing a bunch of the 10pin Palm III adapters from this site. The part number was P3C01, note they have an $11.50 minumum order. Using the Palm adapter soldered to a USB cable made for a suer easy hack.
For those that just have to open it up and solder like crazy, an inter-connect works if it's small enough to fit in the camera. I ended up doing one mod with the USB cable from a mouse that had a four pin connector to it's PCB.
