Dakota Camera - Funky inter-connect Interface
While waiting for the goodies for the interface card to arrive, I got a little restless and decided to make a connector with what I had available. So I picked up another camera and started looking for adapter parts. A dead USB mouse fit the bill nicely...
Our solder points.
Red is +5v, White is Data-, Green is Data+ and Black is ground.
Only one ground is used.
A pic for scale only.
Applogies for the English units.
The battery case top for scale.
What gets soldered where.
Most USB cables will be color coded correctly.
Use a continuity-tester if unsure.
The doner connector from a USB mouse.
We'll desolder the connector from the mouse PCB and solder it to the fingers on the camera PCB.
The cable free of it's PCB. What's the deal with two black wires on the right? The thinner wire is the standard ground, the thicker wire is going to the outside housing of the USB connector. Remember, the continuity tester is our buddy!
Oh yeah; that's some precision soldering there.
I also attempted to use electrical tape to mask off the unused fingers.
The entire mess jammed up under the battery case and hot glued for all eternity.
Did I mention the other method is much nicer?
