Stealth Drives - Disassembly of the drive
To get the drive cover to sit nicely on the drive, we'll need to remove the front cover from the optical drive. This is totally reversable in case you choose to use the drive normally later on.
First we need to pull the drive tray out. With the drive removed from the case, use a paper clip to open the tray. Find the hole on the bottom left of the drive and push the paper clip in. The tray will open about an inch.
Carefully pull the drive tray out.
Don't go yanking like crazy, just extend it slowly until it's all the way out.
Next, remove the drive tray cover. Usually these slide upwards once you push some retention clips out of the way. Here, the tabs are on the bottom of the tray. Pushing these out of the way the cover slides off easily.
The drive tray cover is off.
We needed to remove this so the front cover of the drive itself can be removed.
The drive bay cover will then sit flush in the case when the tray is closed.
Removing the drive front cover.
Like the tray cover, there are plastic tabs that need to be pushed open to allow the cover to come off.
Usually there is one on each side and one on the bottom or top.
One the tabs are depressed, the front cover should pop off easily.
Now the drive tray cover can be replaced.
The drive ready for the cover to be attached.
No drive front cover, but the drive tray cover is back on.
