Writing
At various times I've written 'professionally'; that is, been published, and occasionally, paid to do it. So far payment has taken the form of British Sterling, US Fundage and a sweet 2600 Tee... still looking to score the 'B-Movie zombie role'
2600
2600 magazine, the Hackers Quarterly, was my first foray into published writing. My first career was as a Chiropractor, having received my degree from New York Chiropractic in late 1997. At the time I was interested in assorted telecommunication technologies. As part of my studies (legitimate studies...) I wrote a paper on the use/abuse of some common legal stimulants. It occurred to me while sitting on #hackphreak, it would make a sweet article for 2600. Of course, RLoxley disagreed. I sent it in anyway, and a few days before graduation, I got the news it was in the winter '97-98 issue under the name Met-Enkeph.
Maximum Linux
Before Imagine Media (now Future Network USA) pulled the plug in early 2001, I was a contributing editor for the mag. It was a sweet deal; write some reviews and some how-to's, get a tatt on the company tab and sit at the Linux World booth handing out hats and t-shirts. Alas, the Linux IPO fever ended and we never got advertising from the big guys. My editor, Bryan Del Rizzo is now at nVidia as a PR manager, Woody Hughes aka the Woodman has moved on to other things as well.
Linux Format
The sister mag to Max Linux; they grabbed most of the Max Linux writers after it went down. Hoyt Duff, a former MaxLinux guy, still writes a column for them. While I only wrote for them briefly, it was cool to get paid in british sterling.
