Shapes

My son loves Teletubbies. He's nearly three and likes the matching game on the BBC site. So the idea of a simple drag and drop matching game seemed pretty cool.

The idea is simple; use the mouse to drag and drop the shapes on their shadows. Three to six shapes (the number is set in the options menu) are drawn with shadows of the shapes to drop them on. You use a big, goof cursor to grab the shapes by right clicking on them and dropping them in the correct spot.

The option menu lets you set things like how exact the drop needs to be. You can also decide if the special effects (particles and a shockwave effect) are used. Background colors and background textures can be set. In the game, the middle mouse button (usually the mouse wheel button) will toggle the background images on and off. Scolling the mouse wheel changes the background color if the background images are off or cycles through the background textures if they are on.

The types of shapes can also be selected in the options menu. Currently Letters, Numbers and Basic shapes (circle, heart, rectangle, etc.) are included.

You can also add custom shapes, but they need to be PNG files with transparency. More detail is in the source code file. Unzip and look for the file userShapes.txt in the Info directory.

Both source code and the executable are available. You'll need to install the Xna Framework Redistributable in addition to the .Net Framework 2.0. Extract the executable into a folder and run shapes.exe. User images get copied to the Content\UserShapes folder under whatever directory you extracted it to.

There was even going to be a party for you. A big party that all your friends were invited to. I invited your best friend the companion cube. Of course, he couldn't come because you murdered him. All your other friends couldn't come either because you don't have any other friends. Because of how unlikable you are. It says so here in your personnel file: Unlikable. Liked by no one. A bitter, unlikable loner whose passing shall not be mourned. 'Shall not be mourned.' That's exactly what it says. Very formal. Very official. It also says you were adopted. So that's funny, too.
